I use the Wilton method for cake decorating. I use mostly all their products when I decorate my cakes. I LOVE all their products, recipes and project ideas...and I'm happy to report they have a wonderful Web site.
One of my favorite resources on their site is their Decorating Techniques section. Basically, they have a huge list of what you can create. They've even separated the list into what you can do with fondant and buttercream frosting. They give great step-by-step instructions and have beautiful pictures.
Tonight I'd like to talk about tip 2D, for drop flowers. I've used this tip for a number of cakes and cupcakes. It is by far the easiest tip of all, especially considering the lovely outcome! You can make these flowers to top a cupcake, make a border or cover an entire cake like I did below. You'll also need a number 3 or any small round tip to fill the center of the flower. I love your Wilton cake tips! It was fun making the baby booties for the cupcakes! Although I am not focused on cupcakes or any baking so much at the moment, I am excited to see your fun projects! I am in the "zone" with working out, so if you find an amazing flourless, low-fat, low sugar cupcake, please post that recipe!!!
those are the cutest flowers! Wouldn't they be just adorable on top of cupcakes?
Becky! Hey, it's Traci (Summers) from TNI. I have a question for you about a cake. E-mail me when you get a chance. dtjsanford@yahoo.com
I have a question. How do you go about frosting a round layer cake? Do you put foil underneath? If so, how do you remove the foil when you're done? It's baffling me!
Natalie, are you meaning on the bottom of the cake so it doesn't get frosting all over the plate or cake stand?
If so, usually I just put a couple pieces of wax paper that i cut under it. i usually just slide the wax paper under it a bit...so not underneath the whole cake. You'll probably use like 6 or so thin pieces. Let me know if this makes sense. :)
I bought a Wilton book that is all about tips! It shows all the things that you can do with their different tips! Awesome resource!
