VitaMix versus Blendtec
Okay, so have been thinking a lot lately about these two machines. I've gotten super-interested in blending fruits and veggies for morning drinks. And really, smoothies and other things anytime. I am attracted to this because of its purposes of blending raw foods to smooth drinks while keeping all the fibrous parts of the produce.
Anyway, I'm not at the point where I am ready to purchase one of these seeing how I just bought a new food processor and a new ice cream machine. But I'm definitely interested. I recently tried a delicious blend made from the VitaMix machine that had strawberries, grapes and kale leaves. Oh my. It was good!
I haven't done a lot of research at this point. And I'm going to be a little bit lazy and hope that you guys can offer some advice. Keep in mind I'm looking for a high power blender and not a juicer. I want to be able to consume the whole fruit not just juice.

We just bought a vitamix. I've never even heard of the other one! Honestly, we love it. My husband uses and abuses that thing! So fantastic!
I have the Blendtec Total Blender and LOVE it! The features that I like most about it (that Vitamix lacks)are:
1) It stops automatically! All these machines are LOUD (over 100 db at high speed)and I have a toddler who is scared of loud noises. With the Blendtec, I can push a button and take him to another room then return to enjoy our smoothie, ice cream, soup, etc.,
2) One jar for both wet and dry ingredients. I can grind grains and make dough without purchasing a separate "dry jar" like I would have to with the Vitamix.
3) easy to clean! All it takes some hot water, one drop of dish washing liquid, and 5 seconds on pulse. I use it on average 2-4 times a day so ease of cleaning is a must.
The only thing that I wish the Blendtec came with is a tamper. With the Vitamix, you can put whole fruits in and just push everything down. With the Blendtec, you have to cut hard fruits into chunks that will fit between the blade and the side of the jar. Also, without a tamper, the order which you place the ingredients in becomes important. FYI, the total blender has a 3 hp motor, the Vitamix 5200 a 2 hp. Both are wonderful machines but I'd pick the Blendtec again because of the reasons I listed. Hope this helps.
