There was a scarcity in 2007. Did you know that? Men and women were frantically running from grocery store to grocery store in search of one item: Postum.
Ah yes, that instant hot beverage made from roasted wheat-bran and molasses.
I grew up with this stuff. For some reason my parents always had it on hand. I think they grew up with it too. It wasn't an everyday occasion, but just enough so that overtime I detect that rich Postum smell, I will forever think of my parents, especially my Mother.
In those crazy weeks of 2007, I was trying to find a case or two. Even one jar. But nothing, I couldn't find a single jar of Postum at any of my local Utah grocery stores. Oh well I thought. A legend in my world had died. And I moved on. One of the places I missed Postum the most was in baking, I love to use it as a substitute for coffee and espresso in chocolate recipes. I found copy-cat brands but they were never the same.
Fast forward five plus years and a friend of mine posted on his Facebook wall that Postum was back. That same day in July I ordered three bottles and have been enjoying them ever since.
What's not to love about Postum? It's the beverage that is naturally caffeine free, full-flavored and fun for the whole family to drink. Toast and biscotti are especially good dunked in Postum. Right now I'm on a kick of drinking it with a bit of organic stevia or liquid vanilla creme stevia.
Now I know what you are thinking? Is this really Postum? Is it the original recipe? Who is making it? That's what my family asked when I brought it over. I can't wait to start baking and cooking with Postum again!
